i'm not a commuter, i live three minutes from work, but i think there is a gross misunderstanding when it comes to blaming the commuters for rush hour traffic, there is a far greater evil. it is now officially half term in the schools calendar. now there are quite a few people out there that will notice just how much easier life is when there is a school holiday, they will notice that they can breeze into work half an hour earlier because there is NO traffic on the roads, no mummies in range rovers or 2 tonne mercedes trying to drop their precious singular child off outside the numerous schools whilst parking on double yellow lines and without ever using an indicator. also note the absence of the incessant pushchair rammer - we all know who they are! indeed you will also find yourself home early having not wasted an hour of your day stuck in UNNECESSARY traffic. school kids should be on buses, no ifs no buts, there should be heavy penalties for those who flaunt the rules too. i don't know about the rest of the world, but i would say that here in Cheltenham most children are within walking distance of school, but the act of taking one's child to school is merely a means of conveying social status, showing off the new car and keeping up with the jones'. enough.
